Unlike external bypass loops that waste compression work, the internal slide valve in the Hanbell RC2 series adjusts the effective working length of the 5:6 asymmetrical rotors. Driven by differential oil pressure, the slide valve moves axially along the bottom of the rotor housing bore.
When cooling demand drops, the slide valve shifts to open a bypass port. This allows a portion of suction gas to leak back to the intake chamber before compression begins. Because gas is bypassed before work is done on it, power consumption scales down in direct proportion to the reduced mass flow, preventing unnecessary motor start-stop cycles.
A common source of power waste in screw compressors is a mismatch between system operating pressures and the compressor’s built-in volume ratio.
To prevent these thermodynamic losses, the Hanbell RC2 series offers configurable Vi ratios (typically Vi = 2.2, 3.0, 3.5, and 4.8). Matching the correct Vi setting to your evaporator and condenser pressure differentials keeps volumetric efficiency between 88% and 92%, even under variable partial-load conditions.
Maintaining precise clearances between the slide valve and rotor housing requires strict metallurgical standards. The valve body and housing bores are machined from high-density gray cast iron (HT300) with surface roughness kept to Ra≤0.4μm
During routine compressor maintenance, operators should regularly monitor the solenoid valves controlling hydraulic oil flow to the slide valve piston. Ensuring the differential oil pressure stays above 0.15 MPa guarantees immediate slide valve response and prevents capacity hunting during load transitions.
